Club Details
The club has been in existence since Sept 1993 when it was formed by Tim Lawrence who still regularly gives us all a run for our money.
We have had up to three teams competing in the Southern League though this year there is just the one, being somewhat mid-table in the first division. About 12-15 of us turn up on the tournament scene where sliding up and down in the rankings is part of the habit-forming accessories of Scrabble life. Once a year we have a Summer Tournament, loosely based around competing but mainly about having a day out for cream tea and actually getting to know one another.
Over the years we’ve traditionally found it harder to recruit the younger member to the club, though when we do, as in the case of Harshan Lamabadasuriya and Nick Ball they prove to be nigh on impossible to beat!
Some nights we play with handicaps but generally we have players of all abilities vying against each other. The atmosphere does not resemble a library, sometimes compounded by the Operatic evenings from the hall next door but you will be guaranteed a memorable evening and much banter. The biscuits are fabulous too.
