Humphrey Gokart once said to Lauren Bacall “How come you get all the esses and blanks” but strangely this is not the line that’s best remembered. Michael Caine famously remarked “ All I ask for is a bit of rack balance” but that section of the film is never endlessly requoted. “Ma, I could have been a contender”, we’ve all heard but seldom the more austere and plaintive “You’ve blocked my bonus again you dirty double crossing rat”.
There’s only two 5 lettered words from wiseguy out of the 53 words playable from wiseguy; guise and guyse.
It was great to have a first fledgling visit from Jim and Teresa since their migration north. I had calzoni on my rack against Jim but nowhere to play it, let alone be sure it was OK. Blow me down with a feather Trevor if I didn’t have the identical tiles against Olwynski a week later and certain of its validity, nowhere to play it. 96 first move with indexer from Veritas as well as the neat maltster from our beloved treasure(r). Wanner winner wonner wunner I say, still suffering from N headache. Ann M played Quested for 124 and now tops the highest word board, as well as regaining the entrance fee with a stunning highest losing score of 344 (only 344).
Ever get a first rack of OUHAIR? be sure to play haviour or ophiura (a type of starfish) and not waste time sitting on a cement mixer of your own making.
29 people have played at the club this year, three of which have concocted over 100+ games each.
The handicap tourno is in full swing with Amandla out front, unbeaten.
The other handicap event being the knockout needs 16 names and we’ve got 12. So I’m going to say we’ll start this on Friday 12th Feb at the latest and if we cannot muster 16 Humphrey Gokart can play as a sub.
A big thanks from me to Anne L for reaching 33 games already, thus proving what a wonderful bunch of film buffs we really are. And those strange two and three lettered words will seem so normal soon.
